the desert

i left the ground
i started west
sun beat me down
drought did the rest

lost my little clue about you
lost what not to do

i looked above
stuck out my neck
gave myself up
and my ship to wreck

lost my point of view about you
lost my thoughts i lost my thoughts of you
lost my little clue about you
lost what not to do

no life around
no leap of faith
no sight no sound
no saving grace

lost my little clue about you
lost all sense of losing thoughts of you
lost what not to do
lost what not to do
lost what not to do to you

disaster-phone

the message only gets through half the time
and that’s if i know what i want to say
not happy to pretend that you heard me right
there’s got to be a more discerning way

i went to the man with the broken voice
he told me that he had just the thing for me
said it cut the signal right through the noise
amplified the sound with stability

i took the earpiece, put it in its home
the lack of static was a nice surprise
i pressed my lips to the microphone
the feedback lead to my quick demise

if i had a tail, it would trip me up
but then i’d cut it off and wear it round my neck
this is the last time i’ll let clarity corrupt
this is the last time i’ll ever try to reconnect

i used to wish i could look you in the eye
spill my guts so you’d know how i felt inside
but now i know that it’s worthless just to even try
i can hardly walk, how could i ever fly?

any questions i had i’m gonna let them die
i’m not wasting time waiting for replies
so if you see me don’t stop, don’t say “hi”
don’t call my name, just walk on by
