RPM 2012 – Day 1: Breaking the Silence

Last night – after midnight, of course –  I sketched out a rough plan of what things, subject-wise, the album might cover. I’m sort of approaching it in the same way as Secret Battle and Inaccurate Charm, where the idea is to chronologically deal with a certain chunk of time in my life. Though, while those two albums were sort of straightforward “autobiographies”, covering what went on in my life during those periods, my strategy here is just to use a segment of personal history as a springboard – hoping that reflecting on certain events might provide an initial spark of inspiration.

That all sounds very pretentious, I know. But that’s what I’m sticking with for now.

So, this evening, I sat down with Mr Acoustic Guitar and came up with this:

[download ‘Actor (Demo)’]

I’m not sure how I feel about it. It’s a bit long. And the lyrics aren’t very polished.

BUT, I’m sticking with the plan* and moving on.

In fact, I’m going to try and be super ultra strict and not listen to the demo again until I’ve written all the songs and am ready to record. (Though, external feedback is, of course, more than welcome!)

Will start on a new song tomorrow.

*I did cheat/divert from the plan very slightly – there are actually two tracks of guitar in that demo, though they are doing more or less the same thing…
