and so, my machine was returned to me all repairified. the hard disk did not need to be formatted, which – even though essential stuff was backed up – was nice. they also cleaned up the computer, which was nice too.
in its brief absence, i did take the chance to (re)embrace a bit of “traditional” media:
i listened to a bunch of CDs which i hadn’t/haven’t got round to ripping. CDs… they don’t seem to have much time left, do they? i now (already) get weird nostalgic feelings when i take a CD case off the shelf, open it up, take out the disc, etc etc. [and then when i go and take out the sleeve and read the liner notes, it feels archaic].
i also finished reading Kafka on the Shore, which i’d started way back in june or july. it was my second experience with murakami (after Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World) and i have to say i’ve yet to be convinced. i don’t think i’ll be attempting a third. i’ve started on kurt vonnegut’s Cat’s Cradle…
not so traditional, but i also began – and am now about halfway (?) through – The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass on the DS, which i’m enjoying a lot.
musicwise:
i restrung my acoustic guitar and then came up with a pair of simple, but seemingly worthwhile parts, upon which i plan to work over the next couple of days – hopefully yielding something listenable before the week is out.
some new collaborative stuff should be appearing soon [the stuff is new, the collaboration is not].
and i didn’t go see POLYSICS in the end.
